Born in Sidcup, Kent, GB I spent my early years in Luxembourg where my father was working until we returned to Cornwall in 1980 where I grew up.
My mother was born in Cornwall and my father is Dutch and both have influenced my direction as can be seen in my work.
In 1998 I attended the National Diploma course in Art & Design at Cornwall College Camborne obtaining my diploma with Merit in 2000.
Wanting to specialise in Illustrations I was offered a place on a BA course in Illustrations at the Kent Institute of Art & Design Maidstone, but I was unable to settle and I returned home to my beloved Cornwall.
Cornwall is such an inspirational place for a visual artist with its pure light, surrounded by the sea and ocean, its beaches and wild moorlands. I am also interested in Celtic art since my maternal grandparents were both of Celtic origin, my grandfather Irish and my grandmother Cornish.
This explains why I choose to paint Cornish landscapes or harbour scenes.
I like drawing in pencil as images in Black & White to me are a challenge and allows recording in the finest detail.
I particularly admire the work from the Dutch artist M.C. Escher
From time to time I need to express myself in other media in the form of prints from lino carvings or in 3 dimensional form, woodcarving, clay or plastercine modelling.
Over the last few years I have been experimenting with colours and light in an effort to develop a distinctive style using the rainbow as my example, resulting in paintings or drawings with a difference.
I plan to continue applying this technique and hope it will find favour with collectors and attract buyers for my work.
I am actively looking for an established Art agent to assist in procuring commissions, patrons or sponsors. To further my career I will consider other opportunities such as
cooperatives schemes or working as Artist in residence.
