Wes Loper - Fine Artist

Chandler, OK - United States

Wes Loper was a senior in high school when he decided to pursue art as a career. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1971 from the University of Oklahoma and attained his Master of Fine Arts degree two years later from Claremont Graduate School in Claremont California. As early as 1970 Wes Loper's art was displayed in professional shows and exhibitions, and his involvement in such presentations continues to this day. His works have been prominently featured in over forty shows and exhibitions, including several one and two person shows.
Wes is now working in a new creative endeavor, which he calls Nouveau-Fresco, “Classique Art Works on Plaster.” These works are done with acrylic paints on plaster in a faux finishing technique. Because of the rich texture of the plaster grounds and the subtle color harmonies of the imagery the paintings have a definite classical feel and style.
The paintings have received an extremely favorable response from people who have seen them at the art shows where they have been displayed. People appreciate
the technical skill flavor these works embody so well.
Wes has created artworks in the mediums of sculpture, printmaking and painting (in oils, acrylics and watercolor). He has enjoyed doing a great deal of experimental painting ,but is equally comfortable working in realism and was one of the first artists to work in the field of digital imaging and graphics.
Wes is now exploring the new and exciting medium of 'interactive' acrylics to do portraiture. This new type of acrylic paint handles more similarly to oils than the traditional fast drying acrylic paints. This allows the artist to achieve more blended effects.
Wes has also engaged in a major study of color theory and is currently writing a book on the subject.
