William Parsons - Fine Artist

I was born and primarily raised in Cleveland Ohio, and have had a love of art as far back as I can remember, though apparently my abilities cannot be traced to any parent or relative. I started out as a kid doing comic book superheroes. As I got older I began to work in oils and found this to be quite enjoyable. I'm not exactly sure what prompted it in hindsight, but I do remember seeing the works of the masters such as DaVinci and Michaelangelo and thinking, 'I want to do that kind of stuff!' I have managed to sell a few pieces over the years, despite up's and down's, as well as being involved in projects such as being appointed courtroom sketch artist for the local municipal court during an internship. I have had no real or substantial formal training, which I consider to be to my credit, and sort of just paint whatever tickles my fancy. My style is realism, in the tradition, hopefully, of Norman Rockwell, although some have told me that my work carries a bare hint of art deco in addition. My subject matter is primarily American pop culture (think John Wayne, Goodfellas, Elvis, etc.), although I am very interested in religious depictions as well, specifically those dealing with the life and times of Jesus Christ. Additionally I have begun to diversify a little bit by working on some landscapes as well as still lifes. And of course there's always room for the occassional commission.
