Yelena Kolotusha - Fine Artist
Melbourne, Seaford - Australia
Born in Russia, I started my art practice early and like many little girls drew only horses at first. I spent most of my childhood on the beautiful Japan Sea foreshore in Vladivostok, where I started to collect shells, pebbles and stones, beach glass and floats and was fascinated with their beauty, As a teenager I practiced as a dressage horse rider, that gave me the opportunity to observe and learn about anatomy, movement and magic of this precious animal. Later I graduated from Pedagogical University of Kazakhstan, Alma-Ata, as a Visual Arts teacher and successfully worked with children for several years, and later as a freelance artist.
In 1998 my family moved to Australia, Melbourne, where I continued to carry forward as an artist. I exhibit regularly, won several art awards, one of my paintings was published in 'Australian Artist' magazine.
I admire Old Masters style of painting not only technically, but mentally, when each object of everyday life has symbolic or emotional value, I believe objects have a personality that reflects the relationship they have with people. I love to play with natural and manmade objects, to put them in a situation where they seem to begin to live their own life consonant with human experiences and state of the mind. In my paintings I try to explore how shapes and patterns, position of the objects create tension, dynamic energy or arouse deep feelings, childhood memories, that breathe life into traditional realist still life painting.
At the same time I am always open to contemporary world, new art experiences and techniques. I love bright colours and bold textures!
Still love to draw and paint horses, do commissioned animal portraits. I am a proud member of OSWOA® art movement(Original Small Works of Art).
