This image came to me when all of my girlfriends started learning to knit. Some of them spun their own wool. I remembered holding skeins for my aunts while they rolled it into balls. Ah, the power of "what if." 

I like to walk Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park for inspiration. The wildlife is different in every season, but there are always alligators and they are always primordially impressive

A freeform exercise inspired by a fragment of another painting starts out totally abstract, but somehow catches a fish. 

This painting sets me in a new direction and I love it. There are no limits in the real world I can make as many layers as I'm moved to, of paint and paste and pencil until the subject matter, like a dream, reveals itself.  

Wet skies and seas come right to the point on this piece of rocky Maine coastline. It's a misty morning and ocean going crafts will be grateful to the lighthouse keepers this day.

Bass Harbor Lighthouse doesn't have a boathouse any more. There must have been big winds to take it down. But that's what this point of land is all about, winds and rocky outcrops making music with the surf. So many faces for this artist to paint 

I have painted birches for years, in every season, fascinated by the way they glow, free of tree trunk darkness. There is a mood, a silence, a mystical combining here of sky, pines, snow, and water. Birches are so animate, in nature and on rice paper... 

Is it sad or restful to see a boat out of water, nestled in a grassy field, marking time' 

Foaming water and leaping fish are as challenging to paint as battling for survival against great odds.  

Going home in the dory, yellow slicker protected against wind whipped surf, to a ship under full sail, colors can be so bright and still so subtle, it can be hard to see where sea ends and sky begins. 

Butterfly koi are all frill and fancy flashing color. A wonder to view and a wonderful challenge to paint.
