When the light is just right the water in the canals in Venice is like a mirror. If the water is perfectly still, it can make one dizzy looking at it, particularly if you are afraid of heights, like I am.

Venice at night is one of the most fascinating subjects in the world, and night photography is a great deal of fun. With the settings I used, and the exposure time, the lights of the boat show up, but not the boat, to very interesting effect.

Depending on the time of year, the sun comes up at various places behind St. Mark's Basilica. Just before sunrise the sky turns an incredible color of blue, in this case partially obscured by clouds.
