This is a portrait of C.P. Dadant as he was walking in the morning to work in the early 1900's. He and his father, Charles migrated from France in the mid-1800's to Illinois where they founded a beekeeping business along the banks of the Mississippi...

At the time I painted this portrait, this old black lady was 100 years old. I love to paint people of all ages but most particularly folks whose faces reflect that they have been down a road or two and have survived times of trouble and sorrow.
