you go to the search, enter your word, click the 3rd line to sponsor. they give you a code, post that code on an OUTSIDE website linking back to here. copy the link you put that code in, back into the screen you got it from and you just sponsored it.
I sponsor in my blog...(Blogger.)..It is a tedious process because you need to sponsor the word in every category...prints, framed prints, acrylic prints, metal prints, posters, and greeting cards...but if you want to stay alive in a sea of art it is helpful.
to date i have never used all the search terms because most won't search in that way. i've done plurals. the links out are meant to give this site a higher google ranking. that's why there are so many variations. but you don't really need to add each type of print, just the words you think people will use.
Heather, you said in an earlier thread (I think it was you) that it only takes seconds to sponsor a keyword...Do you sponsor it in all of the categories? If so, it takes a lot more than a few seconds...unless I am missing a shortcut somewhere.
its pointless to do it in all categories because people don't search that way. while yes it can narrow you down on certain types of art, it's cutting into your productivity. so if you sponsor penguin, also do penguins - but you don't have to say penguin art, penguin canvas, penguin card etc. that will drive you nutty. the reason though why it's there is to trick you into thinking it's important. this sponsoring is how the page rank climbs on this site.
you also don't have to sponsor your own name, unless it's really common, then do so.
I only sponsor the keyword - like 'London'... I don't bother with all the different ones like London photographs, London canvas prints, blah blah blah. Most people won't type all that into the search. So I pick a keyword and sponsor it, takes about 10 seconds of work each word.
it's even less than that if you type the links ahead of time. i'll do them in batches, the longest part is figuring out the word and seeing if i have it already. then i make a batch up, upload the link and just go through them all.
