Thanks for the link. Curious I did not see that. Jason spams me pretty aggressively.

Interesting results, too. Photography at 6%? I would have thought it would be more. But then again, his gallery de-emphasizes photography and I'm wondering if that skewed the results.

And no social media results in marketing efforts - at least not enough to blip the chart? That, too, is interesting.

Is it possible there are two completely separate art universes - one that employs older traditional methods and one that emphasizes online and social media with very little overlap between the two?

I once asked about photography in the gallery and was told that it was "in the future."

"Is it possible there are two completely separate art universes - one that employs older traditional methods and one that emphasizes online and social media with very little overlap between the two?"

I would say yes. For instance, if a painter is going to show his/her work on FAA, then that person has to be pretty good with a camera to capture the image. A person who paints and only sells originals doesn't have to know a thing about cameras or computers.

I think one of the hardest thing about presenting an image to the online crowd would be the capturing of the work. It's not an easy task. Then you have to know how to get it to its destination.

Just went back to the survey to read some of the comments. What was interesting to me was looking at many of the websites of those artists who commented.

If you right-click on the names that are blue in color, you can see that person's website layout.

Thanks, JC.

We are all salespersons, whether we want to be or not, so it is important to know what's going on and learn as many tricks of the trade as we can.

Don't like to sell? Get over it! If you want to earn money, you have to put effort into getting "out there" and getting your work seen.

Probably everyone in a civilized country knows what a Coca Cola is. Do they still advertise? You betcha!

Spot on Chuck!

Since there was a lack of photographers in the survey, I am not dead sure if the info really helps me much but it is nice to have a general idea if my market plan is working relative to others in the industry.
