Didn't work for me, very bad audio,

Rich

Hi Rich, I added the sound, It was meant to be that way.

Anyone else? :)

I was wondering if it was meant to be that way but to be honest, it's much too irritating to listen to and most people will think it's just defective.

Ellie Carter

Yes Brian, everything that is on the film audio and visual is meant to be like that.

Why is it irritatingto you?

It's not meant to be a normal video piece, It's meant to be a surreal uncomfortable feeling when watching, I must be doing something right if you find it irritating :)

to be honest would have been better to here who they thought he really was .then some radio frenquency your playing with.

Ellie Carter

Haha, Why do you think that Tom?

Just hearing voices is boring, facial expressions say more than words, so you can tell who knows and who does not.

I get the connection with your chosen audio track (or lack of it) and Dali's work. But I couldn't watch more than 30 seconds of this. As Brian said, its just irritating. But I can look at Dali's work all day. Its fascinating, not irritating. I think you'll get points for your original approach, but I'm not sure you're effectively communicating to your audience what you want them to see and hear.

Ellie Carter

there is no direct line between what track ive put ad Dalis work, So i do not get where you've gotten that from haha!

It's suppose to be annoying but you did not see the whole thing so you cannot comment what im trying to communicate, Sorry. I'm not linking Dali with my video, hes simply in the question.

But thank you for giving it a try :) I know static isnt the best thing to be listing too!

I'm still trying to figure out what was the point of the noise

Chuck De La Rosa

I "got that" from the fact that the sound track made the whole thing feel a bit surreal. Help me understand then. It's supposed to be annoying, but to get your point, one has to watch it all the way through? However because of being annoying people like me just stop watching it, so you're not being successful at communicating anything. So far no one from here that's watched it seems to understand it. Not knowing the focus of your course I can only guess that you're expected to do the unexpected. f that's the case you are successful. On the other hand if you want viewers to get to the end so they understand your message, you have to do something in the first 30 seconds that makes them want to hang in there.

I don't get it. Why would you create something you want people to view but so irritating that they can't. What does anyone get out of it?

It seems to me that the opposite effect would benefit everyone much more. Create something addictive, that people can't get enough of. If you're creating art, don't you want to attract rather than repel? It doesn't have to be beautiful but it should at least be interesting. I find it doesn't have any redeeming qualities. If (for whatever reason) this is what your course objective is, you should receive an A+. Congratulations! That's 30 seconds I'll never get back!

Robert James Hacunda

why do you only create to please Brian? I think it works but could use a little editing of the sound..just a few more barely audible words would help, not much just a little variation..I liked interpreting the baffled expressions ..

i'm glad i decided not to watch yet another video.

Clearly you don't want honest opinions or constructive criticism, you just want people to tell you it's brilliant.

Mike Savad

so i watched 10 seconds of it. if you want to be taken seriously, fix the audio. if you think your doing a surreal piece with the audio, your wrong. it's impossible to watch and not that entertaining, i'm sure dali wouldn't like it much either. that's my opinion. hope your not doing this for a grade. unless of course this thread is a part of that study. we had a guy ask about abstracts a while ago and used the thread as a part of his dissertation.

Mike I'm wondering the same thing. She joined yesterday and has nothing in her gallery.

i'm going to say our reaction is the main project. and the video was just a joke. just like the orange and green abstract. everyone was trying to be fair and nice. but the answer he was looking for was - this was a trash piece and you all complimented it... and then made a video outlining that troll thread.

I'm not sure about that Mike...this is a typical college level video... I'd be interested in what Tony Murray thinks

Greg Thiemeyer

I watched the entire video. It wasn't irritating. I found myself trying to determine who knew the answer based upon their reactions. I guess there are a lot of people who really don't know who Salvadore Dali is, I'm thinking.

Ellie Carter

Hahaha, so I cannot join a new website and post a video on it with out getting called a troll...Dont make me smile, you're thinking way to much in to this Mike. and the guy who was trolling with his "abstract" work jsut so happend to be my boyfriend and he advised me to come on this site to share things, The audio is meant to be like that and i was not creating a surreal video , clearly you have noidea of video art hahahahahha you's are all up your own arses to dont give anything a try, anything that is abstract or a tiny bit different to the stuff you churn out for money not for pleasure is wrong, please climb out your own anus and appreciate any type of art that people have the confidence to show people on the internet, And i liek hwo you all didnt even try and ask me what my project was about, sometimes a bit of back info changes things alot.

But thank you Greg, You actually got the point of my video

I'm not in college, I'm in university, I made this in about an hour for a quick project, with no prep time.

Ellie Carter

Thank you Robert for you comments, You and Greg seem to be the only nice people on this website.

IMO the avatar cat holds the answer! Great markings, especially the chin strap.

Aha Excuse me James? But thanks so cute!

I'm thinking you just want the traffic and the youtube counts to go up, maybe it go viral..... that's my guess... take it from a film producer sitting next to me (seriously), no bueno all around... out closed it after 5 seconds...

Ellie Carter

Film producer....Video artist, So different.

Mike Savad

you begged for opinions, if your boyfriend really is that other guy, then i know this is another experiment on us, and yeah, he was a troll, are you? are you here just to get compliments? are we not nice people because we told you want you needed to hear, and not what you wanted to hear? sorry, i can't lie. if i don't like something i just say it - i don't like that video, i see no merit in it. and it doesn't stand for itself without a build up. your here for compliments and thats it.

Hi Ellie,

I am also studying at University. I am in first year in Fine Art. I see videos like this on a weekly basis as we have studio screenings through a projector where students are advised to share their work for thoughts and feedback.

It reminds me of some of the videos other students would show, but because we are all sitting in a room as an audience, we have to watch every ones work from start to finish out of common courtesy, but also to provide critical feedback, whether it be negative or positive. Many of the videos that students show are hard to watch, and I would say if the audience had a choice, many would stop watching it, leave, and go about their day.

I only watched the first 30 seconds of your video, sorry :s. I don't mean any offence but I just don't think the audio work well, or compliments the video. After 30 seconds I didn't really want to watch anymore of it. But that it just my own feeling and opinion.

From reading some of the comments I understand the type of effect and message you are trying to create with the combination of audio and video. The comments and feedback also suggest that it may not be every bodies cup of tea.

I hope it gets more positive feedback in Uni for you though :)......One thing I will say is that it is quite different, so well done on being experimental, because I know that is what my tutors encourage me and other students to do

Ellie, what were your goals for the video before you made it?
