Removing Myself From Jury Pool

Posted by: Anthony Jones on 11/01/2009 - 10:20 PM

Hey everybody,
Thanks for accepting the jury invite. I think this is the best way to have a contest on here. As most of you know I like to run and participate in the contests. I have entered three images into this contest and think it would be a conflict of interest for me to be a part of the jury, so I am removing myself from the jury by not voting (they won't let me actually remove myself from the jury because I am the administrator of this contest). I have chosen each of you because I like your eye for art and trust you be a good and unbiased judge. Please judge not only on the quality of the art but also adherence to the theme. Alot of people will submit images without paying any attention to the theme. I already had to remove three paintings even though the rules specifically state photos only. Good luck with the judging.

Thanks,
Anthony

In the interest of being fair I think it is best if we either don't enter the contest or are not jurors. It would not be fair to the others for us to enter the contest and vote for our own work. It also would not be fair to ourselves to enter the contest and not vote for our own work simply because it is ours. I wanted to enter the contest so I am not voting.

I like the juried contests better than the general voting or FAA voting contest. Those tend to become a popularity contest. The person who solicits the most votes wins. It is not about the art. The juried contest I feel keeps it more about the art.

Thank you all for being part of the jury process. I think this is how I am going to conduct all future contests. I will be inviting you all back from time to time to judge other contests, but if one comes up you would like to participate in, than please feel free to decline the invite so you may compete.

Thanks again and good luck with the judging.

Thanks Anthony, I was leaning that way myself but wanted to make sure. I'll pull my work and stay on the jury. Should be fun!

I agree, I like the Juried contest better myself. and any contest that I hold will be Juried. which means I cant enter poubts :-( LOL or like you said not be on the jury. On my lighthouse juried contest that I am holding right now, I have randomly just picked names out of the air, and did a search on the name and picked a person. Will let you all know how that one goes :-)
