I am trying to add more keywords to my images. For this fence photograph I added several keywords today, hit submit, and then searched for photographs using some of the new keywords. It doesn't show up. Some keywords are two word combinations. Is there something I'm not doing correctely? A search for "curving fence" brings up just a few photographs and when mine didn't show up I wondered what I might have done wrong. Thanks.
I'm not positive, but there may be a timed process that updates the search engine on the site. I modified the image below to include Kennedy Covered Bridge yesterday and didn't see it in the results right away. Checked this morning and I can see the image.
The search used to update once a day at some point in the middle of the night, (NYC standard time) but it usually does it more often now. At the longest it should take less than 24 hours and you will see it.
Still on the first few cups of coffe and not a great night, with storms and such, but here's a few more keywords, country fence, old wooden fence, rail fence, split rail fence, lichen fence, property line fence, abandoned field fence, wild grasses,
Thanks everyone! I guess I missed the part about delays but I found it now too under curving fence. And thanks for all the keyword suggestions. My mind goes blank when it comes to keywords. I'll have to update them tonight.
Just my two-cents, about keywords.........lately I've noticed that our uploads get placed into different searches than the five keywords we give first.........I think? those five are what determines where one's work shows up. Am pointing this out, especially about your keywords, the first of which is "landscape photos" - at which search it doesn't turn up...whereas the search you landed in first was not in your first five tags............lesson being..........from now on, in my experience anyway, I'm really careful which tags I use in the first five, and, I always include my name.............just fyi...............somehow faa put you into 'curving fence' search/tag........even though you don't use that....
Official FAA response is that is not true and there is no priority put on where the keywords are.
Unofficial JC research on internal SEO of keywording indicates there is no priority on where the keyword is placed on the list. What DOES make a difference is getting the searched for phrase verbatim. eg. black and white football between the comas will place better than black and white, football with the coma between them IF the search is done for black and white football. Oh, and to take that a step further, "black and white football" would come above "football black and white" depending on how it is written.
My impression from this post by Abbie a while ago, is.......the first five you use are shown directly under your picture; the others you use, go directly under Comments.....
and I really think positively that those first ones get you into those searches.........many a time I've searched using the tags below the Comments, and never find my work at those tags.......could be just me..........but, now I'm careful about the first five, as per::::::::::: "your first go under the image" etc.....below........
1. Q: I now see "Tags" and "Additional Tags" listed under my images on their product pages. However, when I add tags, there's one box only. What is separating the two boxes? (My assumption is that after 500 characters, the rest of the tags get placed in "additional".) Am I right or wrong?
A: There are not two boxes. Just add your 500 characters. Your first go under the image, the rest go at the bottom of the page out of the way up to 200 and then the rest are hidden (still there but hidden) It is just how they are laid out on the page. Nothing special about them at all. They are just your keywords in different areas "
PS..........I would like to add here, that I am truly thrilled and amazed at the improvement experienced on new uploads..........even with the 12-24 hr delay necessary for indexing..........my new uploads are landing immediately into faa search.........even on 'cached' pages that , ahem, don't change images for time immemorial,lol...........THANK YOU, FAA ! .....Great improvement.
Which, actually matches my answer, there is nothing special about any of them as they are all keywords and they all work in the search.
Search for Wilmington and the same image that is #5 in seagulls is #1 even though Wilmington is 17 words back. Now, search for beach, which is the first word and good luck finding it at all because there are just too many great selling beach images. The very last word, or in this case phrase, in the list is sea gulls and the image is 1 o 2400.
Which of course brings up a whole different subject. I you are really relying on keyword placement to bring in sales then you need to expand upon how you are going about it. Keywords are important but there are far better ways to bring in sales than keyword placement.
True........but..........it's basic, imo, that if no other form of being found for some of us, me especially - without using promotion elsewhere - is the faa search, then it is paramount for my keyword to work FOR me.
Of the five I used on my image here, only the first three get me into search for those tags, the fourth "transparent' is full of three peoples' mostly art, is cache, and not updated to show my use of that tag, transparent., or nursery..... ....which are ignored, as 'secondary' in importance to our search system - all of which baffles me , lol. Just saying.....Am impressed with the improvements in indexing and placement.........
page 1, faa search Bubbles, and bubbly ........
The keywords directly under it::::
Tags: bubbles art paintings, vivian anderson paintings, bubbly paintings, nursery paintings, transparent paintings, bubbles art canvas prints, vivian anderson canvas prints, bubbly canvas prints, nursery canvas prints, transparent canvas prints
LOL.............pure logic at work there, JC......point taken.....I defer ........but, I do research now, before uploading, all on my own criteria for choices, to try to find un-busy pages with a keyword I need, just to help me be early in the search for that tag.........so far, so good..........no complaints from me...........I feel better if I'm on a search page 'early' because I'm not so sure visitors go much past 10 pages at a tag, at most..........just saying...........
