wendy, since you asked, it was a Yom Kippur to remember, I opted not to officaite several months ago...it's so important to be a congregant sometimes so I can be inspired in order to turn around and inspire others. As it turned out, my clergy returned to my temple in Phoenix and I was able to be with them again which was outrageous, last week.
This week, all the rules changed. I am in the hospital with my mom ( my comments in the threads are my breaks when she sleeps and to be honest, good distraction)
We listened to the most fabulous of the famous cantors (richard tucker) chant the opening prayer, then I led an intimate service Friday night just for her. My nephew is a rabbi and sent her his sermon for me to read yesterday and my brother called and through the speaker phone, he blew the shofar ( ram's horn) to announce the end of the day. She is living on a feeding tube for the past several weeks....so fasting was certainly the easiest for her this year...and to be honest, I have no appetite.
It was amazingly bittersweet and certainly a holy day to remember for all time.
