Cheap Domain Registrar?

Been with GoDaddy for years, but prices have climbed too much.

Would appreciate any referrals for a service with lower priced renewals and new domains.

Would appreciate it, tho, if the alternative service had a good UI and customer service like GD.

Thanks.

Dan, I've got a renewal due tomorrow (through GD), so have spent days researching more affordable alternatives.

Not only have I not found a significantly better price -- it seems that the only good deals are on NEW domains, not renewals -- but the process to switch an existing domain to a new company is complicated and time-consuming. None of it seems worthwhile to save four or five dollars per domain, per year. Especially as it looks like those savings disappear in the second year, anyway.

My next batch of renewals happen in June -- maybe I'll find something by then. Overall, though, it seems prices are up across the board.

I'll see what suggestions show up here over the next 12 hours or so, but will probably just go with GoDaddy, again. The good news: I've never had a noticeable moment of trouble with any of my GoDaddy services over the years. That's a positive!

Thanks, Abbie. Thanks, Wendy. Yea. yer' probably right. The transfer takes time and all other associated problems. And the truth is, the GD service, constant email reminders, etc. cannot be beat. It's just that it's gotten to be so darn expensive to renew!

Edit: Not to mention, Wendy, that GoDaddy's push marketing is a lesson to behold! Neither they nor VistaPrint have a lick of pride - they are CONSTANTLY pushing crud at you. I'm wondering if art should be sold the same way!

i use name.com they haven't changed their prices but are usually like $12-13 sometimes as low as 9 when you get a coupon.

Hmmm, I never hear from GD unless I have renewals coming up!

Sounds like you may have 'opted in' to some notifications over there. I'm the world's most ruthless Opt-Outer!

As for VP -- I hope to NEVER hear from them. I'm not a fan.

Mike,

If I remember correctly, my last round of renewals at GD were 14.99. I cannot testify as to the CS of name.com, but if the difference is only two bucks, it's not worth the change. Thanks for your feedback.

I have been with GoDaddy since 2009 and have been very satisfied with the results. Plus they frequently send notices about sales or discounts. Of course there are cheaper services out there, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

I easily forwarded these two to my own Artists Website pages and direct my customers there with business cards and other ways of marketing my work.

I just renewed with godaddy..$12.46 for my url.....got my second one for free since i was upgrading both at the same time and 30% off the website builder....two complete websites for $127 a year to manage , change, control, all on my own...I am very pleased!
I also only hear from them when they have renewal specials or a new product.

Edit: Dan, you began this thread about 3 hours ago and it already says over 21,000 views... now that's a first - lol!

Edit Edit: Something wrong on FAA... it has jumped by over 300 views in the past minute.

I've used these guys for years:
http://maddogdomains.com/

$8.39 new, $8.49 for renewals. 24/7 phone support. Solid and dependable. They are GoDaddy resellers; same site design, same services, same everything, except they're not obnoxious, bait & switch goofballs like GoDaddy.

I would like to suggest to FAA support that a prize of one free 1-year extension to the premium membership be awarded to the person who has created the most-popular forum thread as judged by thread views.

Dan C, creating views and controversy and dead wood conversations are easy. EASY. Relevancy, however, takes brains.
