Dan, I've got a renewal due tomorrow (through GD), so have spent days researching more affordable alternatives.
Not only have I not found a significantly better price -- it seems that the only good deals are on NEW domains, not renewals -- but the process to switch an existing domain to a new company is complicated and time-consuming. None of it seems worthwhile to save four or five dollars per domain, per year. Especially as it looks like those savings disappear in the second year, anyway.
My next batch of renewals happen in June -- maybe I'll find something by then. Overall, though, it seems prices are up across the board.
I'll see what suggestions show up here over the next 12 hours or so, but will probably just go with GoDaddy, again. The good news: I've never had a noticeable moment of trouble with any of my GoDaddy services over the years. That's a positive!
