Saying Goodbye

I have a sick little kitty, not sick, just old, she's 18! Tonight we have to do the deed and I am dreading it... I'd post a picture of her but she is not looking her best and will just say she is a beautiful grey cat with electric green eyes that almost look like there is magic stirring about. She always liked to nudge my hand with her head for a pet around the ears and neck, it made her so happy!

I've only known her for a few months but we are best of friends, it's sad our time was so short because I was just getting to know her and I think she is a great kitty cat... 8:00 tonight we say goodby to our little Miss Tweedle. :( I asked her to come back to me as a kitten so we can start all over and do it right.

Please send Ms. Tweedle, aka Little C., some love as she crosses over the rainbow bridge tonight. Thank you.

Ah, John, I hate that. Been there, done that. But sometimes we have to bite the bullet for our little furry friends so they are not suffering any more. I'm so sorry to hear this.

Thank you Mary.... she'll be better off, but it's still a tough ordeal as you well know.

the title was supposed to say "oh man this won't be easy", guess there is a character limit.

It breaks your heart a little more every single time.

But look what you provided her with in her last few months - know that you have loved her well , & provided her with the best that she could want.

Adopting a new little kitty ( when you are ready - or one will find you ) will honor her memory.

I'm so sorry John. I'll definitely think of Ms. Tweedle, aka Little C tonight.

As to the Title of the thread:
When you use an apostrophe in the title as in "this won't be easy" it's accepted at first, but when you go back and edit your post everything after the apostrophe will be automatically cut off, so you either have to add .......'t be easy ... again or, even better say "this will not be easy" instead.

So sorry. She was fortunate to have you to care for her in her last days.

thanks everyone, I feel like the fortunate one though! Her body is old and no longer serves such a wonderful cat spirit, it's her time to be free of her earthly body and cross over to the other side.

Christine thanks for that, the way it looks now is I'm upset about a contest or something, which of course is misleading and unfortunate giving the actual nature of the thread.

My sympathy, John. How did you find her so late in life? I have two ladies, Casey and Ebont, who turn 18 on St. Patrick's Day. This is the oldest any of my furry friends have lived to be. I just lost my beloved Max last month and know how hard it is.

You still can go back and change the title, John.

Thank you Dale, I hope all is well with your little guys!

Well, the cat is my girlfriend's and I moved in last November, that's why I haven't known her long.. She said Ms.Tweedle never liked humans and preferred being alone and was astonished I was able to pick her up and pet her. :) I have a big heart for animals, I think they can pick up on these things and judge us as friend or foe relatively quickly.

Christine, thank you I am still learning the ropes around here. ;)

When you've known one all it's life and have to face this, it will break you like a twig. But it's part of what we owe them as pets - a decent ending, free of pain. Don't worry, you're doing the right thing.

I always think of these moments and the sadness to come as the price we pay for the fortune of sharing their company. The longer you have shared, the worse to pay, but I still pay gladly and I hope I keep my courage to go on paying. I must admit, however, that this things only get harder. I know people who renounced pets because they were unable to face that they would end up having to relive such situations. I hope it doesn't happen to me and I also hope I always do the right thing.

Courage, John. Help your girlfriend.

it's never easy no matter how many times you go through it but knowing they had a long life helps a bit.

hard task to do even when you know it's the right thing, I'll be thinking about the three of you tonight...keep an open eye out for her in the future ( this could be a longer time than you would like :o) ) and an open mind for one who may not be her yet ( could be one of your pets from another life you forgot!)

John, I've been there.....saying goodbye is very hard. Warm thoughts are with you.....hugs.

Well, it's over. :( I had her wrapped in a blanket and she was able to see her last sunset on the car ride over. She appeared to gain some energy while looking at the sky and it made us so happy she came around just a little. We both pet her head until the last second and we were the very last thing she saw on the Earth. Thank you all for your support and remember to show your animals that you love them while they are here. They may make you upset on occasion, but they are ALWAYS innocent.

Ah, it's going to take a few days now, of course. You will still be looking for her around the house, but you did the right thing.

When my Gordon setter had to go, I was visiting my son out of town, and my husband had to take him in. The vet asked him if he wanted to leave the room and he said "No, I owe him enough to stay here". Even the people in the office were crying because we used to board him there and they knew him well.

It will get easier, of course, but it's still sad.
