Look Who Came For A Visit!

Just a short while ago! Sauntering by the herb garden in front of the kitchen window. He's a young guy, 1 of 4 of last year's litter, and they all seem to be doing well. The front, side you can't see and back of my house border national forest, so we get these kinds of visitors pretty often. They pass through the neighborhood side to get to a local spring.

Oh no Mike. He's probably still stuck under the porch.

Ha! He really looks like he knows where he's going and determined to get there! I hope there are no young kids playing close by.

Kids in this neighborhood (well region, really, the southern Appalachians) are taught early on what to do when bears are around. Black bears are very shy here. They will avoid noise and groups of people.

Mark, the Hummingbears migrate in June to cooler climates. :)

the most we have in our area are deer. they live in a tiny strip of land - 100 or so ft by 50ft maybe. at least 4 live in there, 2 fawns.. so cute. no bears luckily... the guys at the pool feed them.

The south side of my town is overrun by deer, but we have none here. I see bears, and racoons, rabbits, groundhogs, squirrels, hawks, all kinds of songbirds, giant Pileated Woodpeckers, the occasional fox, and we have a family of black racers (rat snakes) that live behind the garage. Therefore we see no small vermin. :)

We have the same critters in the northern Appalachians
