Door Art

Posted by: Andee Photography on 10/06/2012 - 9:46 AM

Does anyone know how long door art has been popular? I know there are some really cool

doors but I often wonder who decided I would love to have a door hanging on my wall?

I Only have one. Share your door art if you have them.

I love painting doors - not sure why they are so popular. I guess because sometimes doors can be a work of art in themselves.

This is literally a quick snap-shot of a gate/door I took in Sante Fe a couple of weeks ago. I am now painting it in oil. I think it is going well, and will show it here soon.

I think door art maybe so popular because doors draw the viewer in with all the possibilities of what might be on the other side. Doors symbolize a lot, mystery, life changes etc..all very exciting.

I'm surprised to find that there's not a single door in my portfolio.

While I think most viewers consider them warm and welcoming, or an intriguing mystery waiting to be revealed, I find closed doors vaguely unsettling -- maybe even a little dangerous.

'The Lady or The Tiger' mentality, I guess. ;-)

John can you imagine in that was a real house with all those doors on

it just like that and only one worked? Guess which one works? lol A thief

would have a hard time breaking in. That would be one tall house too.....

I love looking at all these doors, reminds me of when I took photos (film) long ago of doors from Virginia City, Nevada. Think when I get some time I will dig around here to see where they might be.

What a great thread this is, I was always intrigued by what might be on the other side of a door.

Philip and Christine, the carving on your doors is scrumptuous! Here are my rustic ones. My sister has had these old doors leaning up against her hedges for years now. They'll still be there until they are reduced to nothing by the harsh Pacific Northwest weather. I like seeing how they age as time goes by.

I have a painting of doors that reminded me of the local store I use to walk to as a child, my grandmother would send me to the store for bread and snuff. And she did a lot of snuff. She'd give me a quarter for tootsie rolls, one of my favorite memories. I haven't figured out how to add an image of on the discussions, but if you get a chance go to my page and look at "Good Bread"
