New card business card by suburbanscenes
Learn how to order business cards at Zazzle
i think everything looks good on this, i don't plan on making it at zazzle, i'll probably use next day fliers, i'm only using them because i plan to see another version... anyway, near as i can tell the QR code works, and i printed one at home and it seems readable - any thoughts before i send this to the printers?
you'll have to click on the image to see the back side.
thanks
i'm including the new brown QR code, hopefully it will show up in the size it is on the card - which is about a 1/2". it seems to have worked in this color as well, but i need to make sure everything is right before i have a pile of them.

how about the qr code? while the online thing says it's ok, i want to make sure the common phone can also do it, it should land on the fineart page after being forwarded.

I like it. I think it ties in nicely with the overall theme and feel of your work, too.

I would like it better if the print in the phone do-hickey were brown instead of black. Brown on green, even better, but...not sure if it would read as well...
Otherwise, it's great for your art offerings. I like it!

the qr thing is tough. it's ok if it's round, it's ok to have a picture in the middle (i have a mustache for no real good reason), and as long as there is white space and the dots contrast it's ok to use like that. i could try it in brown and see if it reads. the only thing i don't like is that it looks to modern against a beat up background. but it is what it is. right now i'm trying to zazzlify the image. it's a cmyk image, i have to convert to rgb. so it's now dull again...

ok, seems brown is fine, i changed it match the background so it kind of blends better and still seems to work ok.

I really like it. The code has to look modern and be obvious so people will see what it is - but I suppose you could try incorporating it into a piece of the steampunk. I like its moustache.

hmmm... the image seemed to have stretched a little more than i was planning. it might be too soft now.

Looks fantastic - like a collectable card. Particularly like the moustache in the QR code.

Great design that perfectly suits your theme of work & very eye catching. Well done Mike :)

Mike, I checked the QR code and it works fine with my smart phone. Have you given any thoughts to using the QR code with special code after the URL to track it with the google analytics?
Something like this (shameless plug for my website :) )
http://www.sebastianmusial.com/?utm_source=test_my_fake_%2Bbusiness_card&utm_medium=business_card&utm_campaign=FAA_CARD
The downside is the long URL.
When somebody is going to access your website with similar link your google analytics will record it in separate category. Easy to see how many people used the QR code.
More about the campaign here:

i thought about it, but in order to do that i have to rely on two different services working. it might work well if i printed them myself in small batches.
@mm - did you scan the image above, or the one on zazzle? i think the one next to my face is blurred.

so ordered it, i'll see how it looks, if they can't scan the square, they can type it in. so far 2 or more said yes here, and 2 qr checkers also passed. and as long as everything lines up on their press, it shouldn't be a problem.

not sure what to say, hopefully others will be able to read it. i spent $20, i guess next time i can make it larger, it would probably help.

we'll assume that. different screens do different things. it's probably moire-ing or something.

I would be curious to know if the glossiness of the different card stock would make a difference with the QR code scanning.
i chose matte, they had gloss - like a mirror. and matte, like photostock matte. i'm guessing lower choices means lower price - 2 sided, 4 color, 1000 cards, matte (didn't change the price for either type) - $21. free shipping. they say that the matte gives a deeper color for some reason, and doesn't show fingerprints. i'm guessing that since people were able to get it off the screen (2 at least), it should work on the card as well.
i'm guessing if it's really glossy though, a reflection or fingerprints could hurt the code. hard to say without the card or a phone.

I never even thought about fingerprints being a problem but I can see that being a possibility, I'm sure it will turn out OK though.

This is cool! Looks great and it is exactly the idea they will have when see your works.

Great card Mike and I scanned it on my iphone off this site not zazzle. I think it really goes with your images.

Hiya Mike,
I love your new card. It has an antique flavor. Until now, I didn't know that the photograph of the guy was you. I always thought you had found that picture in one those old catalogs of faces that were photographed in the 1800s. That handlebar moustache made me think that I was looking at Butch Cassidy. :) Beautiful card.

yeah i did a portrait of myself a while ago the hair, mustache, suit, are from different people i had (family members of back when). the background was a gold reflector. and the rest is mike magic.
thanks

Two thumbs up.
Not your ordinary business card. Better.
Looks great.
Nice job, etc.
Should we have expected any different?

there should always be a reason why someone should or would pick up a card, or keep it, or possibly show it to people. can't wait to see it. it's in quo for printing. now i just need to figure out ways to disperse them. most of the geese flew off, so that's out.

yep, I think your avatar is the best representative of your brand -- the sepia, the handlebar mustache, the tie, the hair style. Regardless of what else you do with your business card, if that's central then for me the segue to your kind of work is effectively communicated...

Looks good and and does a great job representing your work. Why you're not famous yet is beyond me...amazing stuff. Can't stop looking through your work.

for anyone interested, i got my cards. took about a week, shipping was free (they say next day, but i didn't need them that fast or pay that price). print quality looks very nice. they cut off about a 1/16" off around the borders, maybe a little less. paper stock is about twice as thick as zazzle. the ink doesn't scratch off. didn't do that badly when it got wet. the zazzle card was floppy. but these cards stayed stiff, though the edges swelled fast. the matte paper doesn't have much shine but it does have some.
double sided, 4 color, 1000 cards - $20. plus tax it was like $1.25 i think in tax, free shipping. i recommend http://www.nextdayflyers.com/
still wish i had a phone to double check my code works, but if they don't it was only $20

I like the use of the QR code Mike, I would try with a slightly bigger white background around the code to get a pickup first time it's scanned, as the darker border so close may fool the scanner a bit. I like the layout of your card also the pipework menu on the reverse side works well. Maybe with your next batch!.

thanks for the update Mike, I'll be sure to look more into nextdayflyers.com the next time I plan for more cards.

Thanks for posting the review. I'll keep them in mind for next time I need to order business cards.

Looks great. If I had one I would retain it during one of my periodic business card culling sessions. After many tries, I finally got my Android-equiped smartphone to read the QR code off my laptop screen.

Actually, phone numbers in particular aside, I do like to have somewhere to write on business cards. ---- It reminds me why I picked it up in the first place.

Hi Mike, does the scan still work after you recolor it? If it does, I would like to change mine:)!
the above shows the recoloring - the one on the left, as far as i know it still works as long as there is contrast. a light background dark dots. there is a program that will let me use a web cam that will let me see the code. but i can't find my cam. then i thought i could use my snap camera, but can't find the usb cable. i'll have to look. i sure hope the work, but if they don't they don't.
