Capitol Building Art
Thomas Jefferson held a competition to design the Capitol Building. George Washington laid the foundation stone during a Masonic ceremony on September 18, 1793. Thomas Crawford designed the 15,000-pound, 19.5-foot-tall Statue of Freedom sitting proudly on top of the dome. The U.S. Capitol would have burnt to the ground during the War of 1812, except that a rainstorm extinguished the fire. Proudly display Capitol Building artwork in your home or office.
