A Hint of Autumn

The air has a slight nip to it lately, just a whiff of autumn to come. It reminds me of August in the mountains. Today as I went for a walk, I noticed a tree (a very small one, just a sapling) had changed color to all orange-y yellow. Already!

It's not September yet, but Mother Nature is beginning to prepare for a winter's sleep. The birds, their young ones fledged, are flocking together before the long flight South. Fortunately, it will be a few weeks before they begin their journey.

This year, for the first time, it occurred to me that the trees here in New England have very little time during the year to grow. Their leaves barely begin to come out and turn green before they change and fall. So little time to soak up the sunlight! Or is it just that I'm getting older therefore the time seems to fly by faster? (Strongly suspecting that might be the case).

At any rate, fall is on the way. And this has inspired me to list a few autumn landscape prints. Fall Reflections is of a pond in the middle of a hayfield just down the road from my studio. I am always entranced by the stand of trees around it in September when they put on their autumn colors.
