Morning over Angel Fire

The sunrise exploding in brilliant color over snowcapped mountains over the Moreno Vally in the Sange de Cristo mountain range in northern New Mexico. Captured in a watercolor style, this digital artwork features vibrant color to depict the infamous Angel Fire sunrises. The sunsets were just as colorful and beautiful.

The Spanish conquistadors named the area Angel Fire in the southern region of the Moreno Valley because the skies appeared set afire by angels as the mountains turned blood-red. The phrase Sange de Cristo translates from Spanish to English as the "Blood of Christ." Angel Fire is quite beautiful at the end of a wide valley south of Eagle Nest and features a ski/golf resort now. There are bison and cattle ranches in the valley surrounded by Lincoln National Forest. The area is a hotbed for hiking, camping, horseback riding, and off-roading during the summer.

Sitting on the Enchanted Circle outside of Taos, Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, and Red River lead you in a wide circular route through the Rocky Mountains' wide and narrow valleys at high altitude before redirecting you back to Taos. The region and its natural beauty demonstrate why New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment.
