Facebook Login Required For Voting????

Posted by: Rory Sagner on 05/21/2013 - 2:35 PM

I wonder if someone could help solve this problem for me? I have friends who want to vote in the TV contest that do not have FB accounts or do not want to share their FB info in order to vote.

When I click on the contest voting links it takes me straight to the voting pages, but friends say they get a FB login message.

Is there a different way for people to be able to vote without having to deal with FB???

Thank you for any help you can give with this!!!

I wish there was
I have had the same problem.
I have lost probably 30-40 votes because of the login bit or they do not have FB accounts and do not want to create one to vote for me.

Posted by: Rory Sagner on 05/21/2013 - 2:55 PM

Well, now I feel like an idiot because I did not know that was required and told several friends that it wasn't. So, without a FB or FAA account, people cannot vote? That is ridiculous! No wonder it's so freaking hard to get the 250!

There are many people who don't want to share there private FB info. Cripes.

I sure did not see anything in the contest description about this!

There has to be a way for FAA to track who is voting otherwise one could "rig the vote." Using FB makes the most sense because so many people have one and your friends probably don't want to create an FAA account just to vote. Telling your FB friends this won't make them feel better, but it may help them come and vote for your pictures: about 90% of web sites out there have FB scripts that detect the user's FB account (FB feeds the site the info). Your friends can disconnect their FB account from FAA from their FB settings page after they have voted. Go to Privacy Settings, click on Apps on the left column, then edit the settings for Fine Art America.

Thanks for your help Brian! I doubt most people I know would want to go to all that trouble, but I do understand the logic you have explained. I will try posting your info in a few days and see if that helps, but many of my friends and acquaintances don't even have FB accounts.

Hi Rory I am with you, I also sent it to all my friends family and colleagues trying to round up the 250 votes required to move forward just be told that the voting wasn't open to the public! Even some friends that do have FB were having difficulties voting for me and some could not at all. I know I missed opportunity for many votes that way! I had to send out another email to apologize to everyone I sent the 1st one to! I do not do FB and contrary to popular believe at least 75% of all people I know do not have a FB accounts either! It is unfortunate that we have to market within our own community here at FAA to get enough votes to move forward but there is no other way! Post the links to your images here and I would be happy to take a look and vote in return for your votes!

Hey everyone. I am having the same problem as well as getting the votes to come in. I hope that I can get some of you to vote for me at the following link if you already haven't and I will do the same if you post your link as well.

Thanks in advance and good luck

Thanks Brenda for sharing your experience with this problem too! I don't blame people for not wanting to share their FB info (which happens when they sign up that way to vote) or take the time to open an FAA account...even if they can delete it or separate it (FB) later. And frankly, I am hearing from some of my FAA friends that they are voting for others, but then not having those votes reciprocated. I have been systematically going through all the entries and rather appalled that so many REALLY good photos don't even have a single vote....or maybe only one or two.

I am now only promoting one of my that I've realized the limited number of votes we get as well. Here is the link and feel free to post yours here as well if you like.

Jerry, going to go to your photo now and would appreciate a vote from you too.

I felt tempted after learning all of this to bag it, but hey, we have a little over a month, so who knows....

Getting Votes

Posted by: CJ Rider on 05/22/2013 - 1:41 PM

Rory Sagner - voted at #56!!

PS- This contest is less about photography and all about getting new people to FAA.
For one good point.... It is fun networking with many new people on FAA and FB -
Good Luck everyone.

PS - stop by Get250 to network with more FAA artists and others -

Thank you CJ. Congratulations as I see you have a photo already with over the required 250 votes! How on earth did you do that?

I am endeavoring to help people who have not done that yet with the votes I have left, so only voting for each person's top ranking photo and for those that have not made it yet. Hope you understand, but you can retract your vote if you like. Your photo is gorgeous!

Hi Rory great shot!! So mysterious! Voted - good luck, I have 3 submitted but will only show 1 link to the one I want to see get to the next round!

Yeah I have been voting like crazy and not understanding why my number of votes does move to quickly! Then I thought perhaps I should have only submitted 1 piece as I would have had a better chance at getting 1 vote compared to 3! I wish this would have been juried from the beginning or at least have the public able to vote as this way here it is who knows the most people and not by who has an image that is worthy of advancing!

Posted by: Rory Sagner on 05/22/2013 - 4:46 PM

Wow your photo! Just voted!

Yes, my uninformed first thought when I entered was to present a choice of images for people to vote on, but after learning about the 100 vote limit, I would only submit one entry next time. As it is, I am only now linking "Into The Unknown" as it got more votes to start with.

Thank you!!!

Hi Rory, voted Into the Unknown #61. Here is my entry, if you could please vote for me. Thank you and good luck:

Hey Rory,
I have voted for yours #110 and hope that you got around to vote for mine from your previous comment. If not I hope that you will go vote for me if you have any votes left.

Thanks in advance, Jerry
Sorry its taken me so long to get a vote in for you.

Thankyou Rory - that is ok about the votes and I will not retract mine from you. :)

I would like to invite everyone here over to the Get250 group that formed for last years event:
Come on over, there are still people looking to trade votes.

We have some members that are not in the contest but will trade votes for kudos on work in their FAA gallery. :)

Good Luck everyone!!

It's not an upfront request for votes. It's not mentioned in the "fine print" that friend and family have to give up their personal contacts. Not kosher with me. Bate and switch.

Jerry, I did vote for yours!

Thanks for the great info CJ! This is getting tiring, but I will check it out.

Alan, I agree....I did not know that when I entered and sent out my request for votes to friends and family. It is possible however, from what I have been told, to sever the FB connection after voting.

Neat photo Mike! Good luck!!! Maybe check out CJ's recommendation?

Rory, I have suspicion that there is a random generator involved in this system. Visitors are not suppose to have to join to vote in this. I have some people who have had no such problem. I think this is a way for the company to grow its customers.
