Contest Rules

Sculptures In All MediumsSculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving (the removal of material) and modelling (the addition of material, as clay), in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials but, since modernism, shifts in sculptural process led to an almost complete freedom of materials and process. A wide variety of materials may be worked by removal such as carving, assembled by welding or modelling, or molded, or cast.

Now you have a good idea of what sculpture is; then go for the gold! You obviously can't put a 'real' sculpture on this site, but photos of the sculptures are what we need to promote this contest!

Using the definition from above, show us your best photo of a sculpture!

We have done one before of statuary, which indeed are sculptures, for those who aren't sure.

Later, we will have a contest dedicated to just artists who are sculptors by trade, and then the photos will be of the ARTIST'S works that they, personally have created on their own. In the Future, be on the look out for that contest!

This one is a bit different in that it does not have to be a statue!

It may be a carving, in soap, wood, metal, etc. or can be welded or molded, or casted!

And it may be of any material you choose to display!

My logo imagery is of a tree that was 'sculpted' and made into Vidar the Viking, which takes a prominent place in the center of our quaint village of Iola, WI
It was done, using chainsaws, and chisels, rasps, etc. and stands as a reminder of the heritage of the community.

Just a quick note to CLARIFY, The sculpture does Not have to be one that you, personally created, in THIS particular contest. It can be, but doesn't have to be! You may take a photo of someone else's sculpture, which many will do, as many of you are NOT sculptors!

Take a photo of Michelangelo's, 'David or the Pieta', and it would be acceptable!
Take a photo of a soap carving you created, or of a piece welded into a sculpture, a wood carving, etc.,all of which are acceptable in this contest!

Judges will consider the uniqueness and creativity of all photos of sculptures, when making their decisions.

Hope you have fun with this contest, as that is part of the purpose, to have fun, and to showcase your talents as a painter of a sculpture, a photo of a sculpture, or an actual sculpture you created.

If you want the judges to know that the photo you submitted, is an actual piece YOU, personally have created, please state that in the description of your photo submission!

Any Questions beyond this can be answered by contacting me via email, and I will get back to you with the best answer I can provide. Have a great day and enjoy the contest!
