Reflections From the Inner Citadel

Time Arts Gallery is proud to announce the first solo exhibition of works by Janet Rutkowski. In response to the present times of duress and uncertainty, this new series of sculptures and drawings were the artist’s means of escape.
The Citadel installation consists of four iron towers set into a diamond shaped enclosure representative of that inner fortress—the safe place. The Gatekeeper, an ominous steel guardian blocks the entrance to the uninitiated. The inner sanctum contains glyphs drawn into the sand, and serve as a means for reflection and meditation.
The Quarantine Compositions are the artist’s solution to confinement and loneliness. Ms. Rutkowski, who is a sculptor, now takes up the new discipline of drawing in colored pencils, markers and ink. There are 72 sketches in all to this date. The earlier works were simple but quickly grew in complexity. Convoluted patterns and multi-colors emerged, liken to the automatic writing of the spiritualists. We now invite you to escape into the world of the Inner Citadel.
Gallery will be up virtually and watch for Zoom events.
