Opening Reception, March 7, from 6:00-10:00 p.m., for new exhibit of abstract expressionist works by MtnWoman Silver. The show will run from March 7-29, 2014.
Listening attentively to music while she works, Silver lets the melodies she hears inspire the bold shapes, colors and lines she develops in each piece. In her most recent work, Silver paints intuitively with acrylic and black ink as she absorbs the sounds of a Tchaikovsky symphony or a Native American flute. Each piece seems to pulse with the energy of the music, ebbing and flowing in vivid intervals until coming to a close at the painting's edge, much like the music itself. And, since Silver's paintings are a reflection of both the music playing in her studio and her emotional state at the time, she regards each of them as a momentary mirror of herself explaining "I consider every painting I do a self-portrait".
