Roland, I am enjoying your painting of Eagle Hill and sharing the cards with our family. My family lived at Eagle Hill in 1870, then moved to Rathnafishogue soon after. The Connors emigrated to the USA in 1880. The family also lived in Clonmore, Knockatomcoyle, and Kilalongford. If you have any paintings of these areas I would be happy to take a look at them. Jim Shannon with the Carlow Historical Society has been helping me with local history. Thanks, tim

WW1 Series Fokker Dr1 - Triplane The Circus comes to Town!! For some time in 1917 the Fokker Triplane was the scourge of the Flanders skies. Much more manoeuvrable than the current RFC aircraft the Tripe was instrumental in the near total failure of the Allied air arm in that year. Front-line aircrew service life averaged less than three weeks and new pilots were pitched into the fray with about 10-12 hrs total flying experience. This group falling on a pair of unsuspecting French Nieuports. The Dr1 served with the famous Richthofen Circus which was instantly recognisable by the varied colour schemes adopted for individual aircraft. Effective for only a few months - very effective as the Red Baron gained 20 of his victories flying the type - the Dr1 was withdrawn from service by mid 1918 after a rash of wing failures laid at the door of shoddy construction. Hermann Goering, the Luftwaffe leader in WW2, served with this...
Have been interested in photography since just after WW2, when film became freely available again, using Kodak Autographic equipment. Graduated, in the 50's, to 35mm and was involved in photographic work during my 17 yrs as RAF aircrew - navigator. Since retirement and migrating to Canon digital equipment have been involved with two of my sons and one grandson in a considerable amount of photographic activity, particularly composite images. Now producing digital art prints with the major emphasis on classic warbird aviation. With son, Duncan, now becoming a well-known and published wild life photographer we have started, in 2017, a new gallery reflecting Scottish sea birds - and 'feathered' flight
