We hit the road early that morning via a private tour bus and headed south toward Naples on an Italian tollroad. Our initial destination was Monte Cassino, and then on to Roccasecca. The bus dropped us off at the Abbazia di Fossanova. The balance of the trip was on foot until we made the train that night after pizza at the Fossanova station. Before the train there was Ristorante Pizzeria Il Giardino. This literally was a restaurant in an outdoor garden. I think they could have served ground up bird feed. It was not hunger, but the unremitting need to sit for a while where I could keep the Hat in view being assured that I was not lost in the southern wilds of Italia. PS: The pizza was good, and the vino rosso better. The garden was not lush but featured a tall privacy hedge, and garden pool with many pizza fed turtles looking for more.
