Melting ice of Paradise Ice Cave (appx. 7,000') in Paradise Glacier on Mt. Rainier's south slope. Hollowed out by wind & water erosion, snow & ice melt, the caves collapsed in the Fall of 1991. Once considered the world's longest glacier cave, it's expected to take another ice age for them to be able to form again to that size. Mt. Rainier NP, WA- 7/89
While lucky to grow up in Monmouth, Illinois, after college I went West mainly for National Park proximity. By 1976 I was shooting medium format landscapes with Pentax 6x7s till the Mamiya 7 came out, & from 2012 with a Pentax 645D that eliminates Imacon scanning & spotting. After 15 years in the SF Bay area, I was in Seattle from 1987-2017 but now in Florida. Credits include Arizona Highways Magazine & Sierra Club Calendars, among others, & being with Photo Researchers stock agency since 1978. Except for baseball games where I like crowds, I'd rather try to glorify quiet places where solitude is harder to avoid than find. That's when I'm least self-conscious & most likely to do a place the justice it deserves in trying to...
