Description
Blood sampling. Nurse draws a sample of blood from a chest vein (superior vena cava) in a 27 year old female patient suffering Hodgkin's disease. The syringe is partly filled with blood. The blood will be used for tissue typing, because the patient may need to receive a bone marrow transplant. The patient has already received anticancer treatment, with subsequent loss of her hair. Hodgkin's disease is a rare cancer in the lymphoid tissue (lymph nodes and spleen). As the disease progresses, the immune system becomes impaired. Treatment includes radio- therapy, cancer drugs, and bone marrow transplant.
