Description
The collapsed sand castle in this beach scene was an afterthought in my oil painting. Actually, I was on Captiva Island, Florida, during a recent vacation, when the reference photo of this scene was taken, The hot, sunny seascape on the Gulf of Mexico is a lush, tropical paradise. The sky was a cerulean blue with hints of violet and ultramarine; the water, calm, a lovely green and blue. In my mind's eye, the warmth of the sand, yellow and orange warmed by the sun, made this tropical adventure a perfect getaway. It was an alla prima painting so it captured my fleeting feelings of a beautiful warm setting..
