Description
Curiosity rover's landing site. 360-degree panoramic mosaic view of the landing site of NASA's Curiosity rover, with the highest part of Mount Sharp at top centre. Curiosity, the rover for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on Mars on 6 August 2012. The visible high point on Mount Sharp is some 20 kilometres distant. These images were obtained by the rover's 34mm Mast Camera. The mosaic consists of 140 images obtained on 8 and 18 August 2012. These images were obtained before the camera was fully characterized. Researchers enhanced the colour to aid analysis of the Martian landscape.
