Description
Early Earth's star cluster. Illustration of the surface of the early Earth with many stars in the sky, depicting the theory that the Sun was formed in a star cluster that has since dispersed. This theory was proposed in 2009 by Simon F. Portegies Zwart of the University of Amsterdam. The number of stars in the original birth cluster could have been around a thousand. Most will now be dispersed within the Milky Way, but some may still be relatively close and may have characteristics that enable them to be identified.
