Description
A Giant Swallowtail butterfly shows off his wonderful smile while resting on a purple verbena flower in my backyard garden. This is referred to as the dorsal view of a butterfly and just like many butterflies, this view is quite different from the ventral view. You can find several images of the ventral side of Giant Swallowtails in my Swallowtail Gallery. That view is mostly a creamy yellow color with little chips of blues and orange. The dorsal view, however is mostly black as you can see here. I really love watching these butterflies lift up onto the skies and reveal this view. To me it looks like they have big smiles on their backs! They are also one of the largest butterflies I see in my Ohio wildflower meadow.
I am so concerned with our environment that I have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
