Description
Glioblastoma cancerous brain tumour. A computerized tomography (CT) scan of an axial section of the brain of a 59-year-old patient with a malignant (cancerous) brain tumour. The tumour is in the corpus callosum (wide nerve tract beneath the cerebral cortex that allows communication between the 2 hemispheres of the brain), and is known as a fronto-callous glioblastoma. A glioblastoma (glioblastoma multiforme) is an aggressive type of cancer that forms from star-shaped brain cells called astrocytes (glial cells). These tumours have their own blood supply allowing for growth. Treatments can slow cancer progression, and may reduce symptoms such as headaches and nausea, but a cure is often not possible. This is a CT scan under intravenous iodine injection.
