Description
Grommet in the eardrum, otoscope view. Grommets (also called tympanostomy tubes) are inserted into the tympanic membrane (eardrum) to relieve the build up of fluid and pressure seen in severe cases of otitis media (middle ear infections). This is a Shah grommet in the front lower (antero inferior) quadrant of the membrane. Also visible is a large scar indicating an earlier eardrum perforation which has healed.
