Description
A perched Harpy Eagle(Harpia harpyja) photographed in the state of Mato Grosso o,Brazil. The harpy eagle is a neotropical species of eagle. It is also called the American harpy eagle to distinguish it from the Papuan eagle, which is sometimes known as the New Guinea harpy eagle or Papuan harpy eagle. Harpy Eagles are among the world's largest and most powerful eagles. Their rear talons are about 3-4 inches long – the same size as a grizzly bear's claws! Like many other birds of prey, Harpy Eagles continue to bring fresh green twigs and branches to the nest after the chick has hatched.

Thank you Morris. You are so correct about the rarity and difficulty in finding and photographing a Harpy Eagle in the wild.I was very fortunate to have done so some years ago in Brazil. It was an experience i will never forget and I have not been able to repeat.I am happy to hear you have been able to photograph one also.. Thanks for the kind words Morris.
