Description
HD 69830 planetary system. Illustration of rocky debris and three planets orbiting the star HD 69830, which is a yellow dwarf star 40 light years from Earth in the constellation of Puppis. The planets (HD 69830b, HD 69830c, and HD 69830d) are similar in mass to Neptune. The planets were discovered using the HARPS (High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher) spectrograph on ESO's 3.6-m telescope at La Silla (Chile). The innermost planet is most probably rocky, while the outermost is in the habitable zone. The rocky debris and dust forms an extensive asteroid belt. Illustration published in May 2016.
