An addition to my series “Coastal Fortifications.” I like the way the severe lines of the ladder contrast with the softer, weathered surfaces of the walls. And even the ladder is softened somewhat with a bit of rust. Bright sunlight created a strong yet mysterious shadow on the wall, which really drew me into the scene. Worn, weathered, painted, scratched, scraped, and even moldy artistic compositions are there for the finding when we look just a bit closer. This image created at Fort Casey on Whidbey Island, Washington.
