Description
Oesophagus ulcer. Endoscope view of the lower part of the oesophagus (gullet) of a 72 year-old female patient. The extensive ulceration (cream) and severe surrounding inflammation (oesophagitis, pink) has been caused by chronic acid reflux. The oesophagus has also narrowed (stricture) due to the inflammation, and the lining cells have hardened (scleroderma) due to the repeated exposure to stomach acid.
