Pork tapeworm. Light micrograph of a section through the body of a pork tapeworm (Taenia solium), showing sections called proglottids. Here, there is one mature proglottid (centre) with two cut proglottids at each end. The complete proglottid shows branches of the uterus containing masses of eggs. Younger proglottids are self-fertilising hermaphrodite structures containing testes and ovaries. The swelling on the proglottid's lower surface (lower centre) is the gonopore, which receives the vagina and cirrus (penis). Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
