Painting on a Biblical theme by French artist Louis Hersent (1777-1860), dating from pre-1822. The painting has an interesting back-story in that it is thought to have been commissioned by King Louis XIII to show the young miniaturist painter Lizynka Rue as Ruth. In the Biblical tale, Ruth comes to Booz to ask for protection. I have been unable to find any further information about Rue, or the French king's interest in her. If anyone knows more, do get in touch. Hersent was marraied to the artist Louise Marie-Jeanne Hersent-Mauduit (1784–1862).
