Such a beautiful card!

Beginning with an outstanding photograph, the ability to crop and rotate the image, along with quality card stock, envelopes and box. The Best!

I bought notecards, so I don't really have a photo to upload, but thank you for having this particular image available! I have been looking for it for a number of years. The artist lost two sons in World War I. He also painted the murals in the Chapel of the Dead in the Jesuit parish in Paris where his sons are memorialized the same year he painted this image, which he later gave to a family member who was ordained as a priest. This was Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's favorite image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . . . he gave a card of this image to a friend during World War II, and he had it on his desk when he died in New York City in 1955. If you have any knowledge of where the original painting is, I would love to know! I hope to go to France someday and would love to see the original painting.

Artist's Description

Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923). 1902 illustration of the French stage and early film actress Sarah Bernhardt in costume. Bernhardt became famous during France's Belle Epoque period and was in demand across Europe and the Americas. After making a name for herself as a serious dramatic actress, she earned the nickname 'The Divine Sarah' and was referred to as 'the most famous actress the world has ever known'. Bernhardt also studied painting and sculpture and is best known for her 1880 Art Noueau decorative bronze inkwell or a self-portrait with bat wings and a fish tail.

About Collection Abecasis

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
