Small intestine. Endoscopic view of the normal interior of a person's ileum - the small intestine. The intestinal lining (mucosa) is healthy with many small villi (finger-like protrusions) giving it a furry appearance. This is the region of the gastrointestinal tract where nutrients are absorbed through the villi as food is digested.
