My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. This is one of a series of works for the school canteen in city Chkalovo, Ukraine. Serie consists of 16 canvases. The paintings were executed in 1985-86 by a family of artists Marfa Tymchenko, Ivan Skytsiuk and their daughter Olena Skytsiuk.
The Fox and the Wolf
The Russian fable of The Fox and the Wolf is also known as "The Lame Who Carried the Strong."
A fisherman is carrying his catch of fish back to his house on a sled when he comes across a fox. The fox is limp, and appears half-dead. The fisherman picks her up and puts her on the sled with the fish. As they move towards home, the fox slowly drops the fish off the sled one by one. Upon reaching the house, the fisherman doesn't notice that most of his fish are missing, and brings what fish are left into the house along with the fox. While the fisherman goes off to do his chores, the fox gets up and goes into the kitchen. She finds some sour cream and eats it. She then steals a chicken and a napkin. Whi...
About Olena Skytsiuk
Olena Skytsiuk is a professional artist by vocation from Ukraine, Kiev. Studied at the Lviv State Institute of arts and crafts on the faculty of art ceramics. In 1967 first participated in the exhibition. She is a Member of the National Masters of Folk Art Union of Ukraine since 1993 and Member of the National Artists Union of Ukraine since 1978. She is a highest category Specialist. Participant of the national and international exhibitions. Some of her works are in the private collections in Ukraine, some in other countries all over the world. Olena Skytsiuk paintings represent a very beautiful and very unusual style of art.
