Artist's Description
The new Tacoma Narrows bridge sits next to the old bridge. The old narrows bridge replace the galloping gertie after it collapsed into the Puget Sound in 1940. The bridge was built to replace the ferry. The remains of the old ferry dock can be seen in the foreground. Gertie's replacement was opened for traffic in 1950. It is now used for westbound traffic and the new bridge, which opened in 2007, is used for eastbound.
About Mark Bowmer
I was born and raised in Belfair Washington. While growing up, I spent most of my time in the woods, hiking, hunting and just wandering around. On those trips, I had a little 35mm point and shoot. Work moved me to Kentucky in 2006. This year my wife upgraded my little 35mm to a Nikon D7000. I would like to focus my photography on getting the view that people seldom see. Everybody knows what it looks like from the road, I want to do the hike and capture the view from 8 miles in.
