Description
Valeri Kubasov (1935-2014), Soviet cosmonaut. Kubasov took part in three missions between 1969 and 1980. He was the flight engineer on both Soyuz 6 (11-16 October 1969) and Soyuz 19 (15-24 July 1975). Soyuz 19 was the first joint US-Soviet mission. Later, Kubasov was the commander of Soyuz 36, a mission to the Salyut 6 space station. The launch was on 26 May 1980, and Kubasov and his passenger spent 7 days in orbit and then returned to Earth in the Soyuz 35 spacecraft on 3 June 1980. Kubasov retired from the Russian space program in March 1993, later becoming deputy director of RKK Energia.
