Very pleased with the image, color, printing . My selection of printing onto wood is great for this image. There are a few mildly dark lines which are natural to wood. They show through the image and contribute to the image--glad that none of these was over the face of the horse rider.

I wanted a photo that showed what a beast these things are, and this one really shows it.

Perfect! I wish that you'd included a translation of the two inscriptions in some ancient language that are above the shoulders of St John Coltrane. It would cost your company virtually nothing to supply this with the picture.

Artist's Description

Duchenne's physiognomy studies. Man with a facial expression induced by electrical probes applied by French neurologist Guillaume Duchenne (1806-1875). Duchenne used the new technique of photography to record idealised facial expressions thought to reveal the emotions of the soul. Here, the corrugator supercilii and platysma muscles are stimulated, and the mouth opened. Photograph from the 1876 edition of Duchenne's 'Mecanisme de la physionomie humaine' (The Mechanism of Human Physiognomy, 1862). This work was subtitled 'The Electro-Physiological Analysis of the Expression of the Passions, Applicable to the Practice of the Plastic Arts'.
