Description
1821 Armorers Dwelling Harpers Ferry
This dwelling, in excellent condition, is an example of mid-19th century housing for the workers at the Harpers Ferry Armory. This circa 1821 dwelling is constructed of coursed fieldstone rubble, is rectangular in shape, has a 2 bay front, is 2 stories in height with an attic and a steep gable roof. These houses were built on land that belonged to the U.S. Armory at Harpers ferry. These houses were allowed to be constructed due to the severe housing shortage for workers at the Armory and in 1832 the U.S. Government started to buy these housea and rent them to the Armory workers. This Armorers Dwelling has some of the original woodwork such as mantles, etc., and the structure is of historical significance. This building is now part of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
