Artist's Description

1869 hand drawn map of Kankakee, Illinois, by famed 19th century cartographer Albert Ruger. Kanakee, founded just 15 years prior to Ruger's map, served as an import center of business and education midway between Chicago and Champaign-Urbana. The county seat of Kankakee County, the city along the banks of the Kankakee River boasted beautiful churches, schools, homes and businesses in 1869. Ruger displays Kankakee and its namesake river, as a thriving county seat town. The panoramic bird's-eye map identifies Kankakee's key churches and businesses. Albert Ruger is credited with developing and perfecting the craft of panoramic bird's-eye maps in 19th century America. The prolific cartographer produced maps of cities in 22 states from New England to the Midwest and south to Alabama. This partially restored map is the perfect addition to any home or office decor. Multiple print styles and mat/framing options offer buyers the opportunity to customize their Kankakee map.
