James and William Packard and their partner, George Weiss, founded Packard in 1899. Like many start up entrepreneurs of that time, the founders were working to motorize the horse carriage and did so in 1900, a simple, single cylinder engine. The vehicle was a success and Packard was on their way to being an iconic American car brand. Early Packards were built in Ohio but the company later moved to Detroit where they remained for many years.
In this model, the radiator front grill is adjustable for outside temperatures. In the summer, the vents would be opened, and in colder winters, the vents could be closed to regulate the water temperature.
These cars can be visited at the Murphy Car Museum in Oxnard, CA.
I began photography in the late 1940s when I receive a gift of a Kodak Brownie Box camera. Since that day I have been very interested in capturing as much artistic imagery as possible. I have moved up from the 120 by 120 B&W film to a Yashica, Single Lens Rangefinder 35mm, and Kodak color transparency film. My next acquisition was in the early 1980s with an Olympus OM-4, 35mm Single Lens Reflex camera and several accessory lens attachments. I also purchased my first chemical darkroom and equipment to print all my images. I was a big user of Kodak Kodacolor, and Kodak Ektachrome.
